POST 203: Dance & Sports Leaders

The photo is from the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald. It shows the Sports and Dance Leaders introductory courses taken in the Summer Holidays 2016. I am in the back row one wearing a cream coloured hoodie.

The aim of this event was to encourage Dancers to follow the Y-Dance Leadership course. It also allowed coordinators and active schools coordinators to network.

I have met the active schools coordinators from Largs Academy (who used to work with Y-Dance) and Auchenharvie Academy. We swapped emails and aim to stay in touch.

We also hope that the students at the Dance Leaders Course will attend Higher Dance with me. I have organised the course so that they will be trained in Contemporary and Jazz techniques but the Choreography Unit will run in parallel. This will allow the girls to visit local primaries and teach their choreography which will be filmed at the North Ayrshire Dance Show at Christmas and the primary students can be used to perform the Dancer’s Choreography for their final assessment in April.

This process has been backed by Active Schools who have been asked to to improve Dance delivery in the cluster primaries and show the Dance Leaders progression to justify paying the Y-Dance fees for tuition. If my ideas work, I will have the opportunity not only to teach Higher Dance but to Coordinate the student visits to the primaries and regulate the teaching content of their sessions through the Higher Dance Choreography Unit. The plan is to inspire further dancers at primary level so that when they come into secondary they have the skillset and enthusiasm to participate in Dance or Dance Leadership.

How far have i got….Two girls interested at my school whom I met today and a few others who are eager but not definite. Come on ladies go for it!!!!!!!
