This is a picture of me teaching in Harvies Leisure Centre. This picture shows a Mum, Dad and Son all achieving in the same class.
This shows that Adults can maintain a level and younger students can work to that same level. The corrections for the young student are to ensure correct technique but the corrections for the older student are to provide the strength to maintain the technique. Neither group should be patronised.
To overcome differences in flexibility, strength and stamina I provide three levels on each exercise. The students work at their own pace so that younger or more agile can work as fast as they wish in a set time frame. There is healthy competition between members of the same family/friends.
I also differentiate based on the instruction I provide. With younger or less practiced individuals requiring more guidance.
The outcome is different but each member performs the same task.
They do well and I try very hard to enthuse and encourage.
